TRAINING REQUIREMENTS

Training before an application

Applicants must complete a state-approved concealed-carry course that includes legal instruction and a firing-range qualification.

Practical next step: Ask the issuing authority whether your instructor, course format, certificate, and live-fire qualification satisfy the current application rules before paying for a class.

NONRESIDENTS AND TRAVEL

Crossing a state line changes the rules

North Carolina generally does not issue ordinary nonresident permits, but recognizes concealed-carry permits from other states. Visitors remain subject to North Carolina law.

Reciprocity caution: Recognition of a permit does not make every rule identical. Vehicle carry, notice signs, prohibited places, duty to inform, alcohol-related locations, and magazine or firearm restrictions may differ.
