TRAINING REQUIREMENTS
Training before an application
Permit applicants must complete a course taught by a Utah BCI-certified instructor. The curriculum covers Utah law, safety, and basic handgun familiarity.
Practical next step: Ask the issuing authority whether your instructor, course format, certificate, and live-fire qualification satisfy the current application rules before paying for a class.

Crossing a state line changes the rules
Utah accepts nonresident applications. Applicants who live in a state that recognizes Utah permits may need to hold their home-state permit first.
Reciprocity caution: Recognition of a permit does not make every rule identical. Vehicle carry, notice signs, prohibited places, duty to inform, alcohol-related locations, and magazine or firearm restrictions may differ.
